Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)

The Johns Creek Police Department Crisis Intervention Team (C.I.T.) is a team of specially trained officers who meet individuals in a state of crisis due to a mental illness.

The CIT officers administer de-escalation techniques to effectively reduce of potential injury to the individual (mentally ill person) and the officer. The program also provides follow up measures such as resources and education to further enhance the problem-solving process.

The all-purpose police dogs of the Johns Creek Police K-9 Unit provide a crucial service to Uniform Patrol. They work various aspects of patrol, including:

  • tracking
  • apprehension
  • narcotics
  • building searches
  • article searches

SWAT and Negotiations

Swat negotiations

The Johns Creek Police Department is part of North Metro SWAT and Negotiations, a special weapons and tactics unit to serve the cities of Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, and Dunwoody, Georgia.

The 30-member North Metro SWAT team – made up of officers from each of the three cities – is trained to perform high-risk operations that fall outside of the training of other police officers.

Equipped with specialized firearms and equipment, North Metro SWAT and Negotiations teams respond to:

  • hostage rescues
  • counter-terrorism operations
  • serves high-risk arrest and search warrants
  • subdues barricaded suspects
  • engages heavily armed criminals

Traffic Safety

Traffic safety

The Johns Creek Police Traffic Safety Unit’s highest priority is to ensure the safety of all those who use Johns Creek streets and roadways and reduce the number of vehicle accidents in the city.

The unit is also responsible for the investigation of hit and runs, serious injury crashes, fatality wrecks, DUI enforcement, traffic complaints, speed surveys, coordination of traffic control for special events, and traffic law enforcement.

The Unit carries out its responsibilities by:

  • Enforcing vehicle and traffic laws and regulations.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and sharing data on accident causes.
  • Providing education on safe driving to schools, civic organizations, and teen traffic violators through the DRIVE program (link to DRIVE program page, link tbd), the JCPD/Municipal Court’s Teen Driver Safety Intervention Program.

CID

The Criminal Investigations Division performs a crucial role in the criminal justice system to gather, document, and evaluate facts to solve crimes.  The primary duties include investigations, surveillance, interrogation, case management, evidence handling, report writing, and court testimony.  The Criminal Investigations Division collaborates with State, local, and federal law enforcement agencies to solve and prevent crime.


CSI

The Crime Scene Investigation Unit is tasked with the collection and preservation of evidence in a laboratory environment.  In addition, the unit is responsible for logging and securely storing crime scene evidence and property.  Additional tasks include report writing and court testimony.  The Crime Scene Investigation Unit collaborates with State, local, and federal agencies to perform forensic testing.
