Planning & Zoning
The Planning & Zoning Division of Community Development oversees all planning efforts and administers the City’s Zoning, Sign, and Tree Protection Ordinances.
Its goal is to achieve a well-balanced mix of development types and uses with quality growth that meet the needs of the community in creating a vibrant and healthy city.
The division reviews and processes variances, various permits (administrative, fence, sign, event, etc.), and requests for land use petitions (Rezoning & Special Use Permits). The division works collaboratively with property owners and potential developers in an effort to ensure proposed developments add value to the community.

The City’s Zoning Ordinance regulates permitted base and accent colors for all buildings except single-family detached dwellings. Permitted colors are as listed in Table 12E.4.D in the Zoning Ordinance, under the PANTONE® system, which is known as the standard language for color communication across a variety of industries. Glass, natural stone and sign faces are excluded from the color requirements, and all whites, greys and blacks are permitted.
