The City of Johns Creek invites residents to attend a Code Compliance Workshop aimed at helping homeowners better understand and adhere to property maintenance standards that keep our community clean, safe, and attractive.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, July 17 at 6 p.m. at Johns Creek City Hall, 11360 Lakefield Drive.
Whether you’re a homeowner, renter, or property manager, this workshop is designed to help you stay informed, avoid common violations, and play a proactive role in your neighborhood’s well-being.
The workshop will discuss three common compliance topics:
Tall Weeds & Grass
- Premises must be free from weeds or plant growth exceeding 10 inches
- Definition of weeds excludes trees, shrubs, cultivated flowers, and gardens
Property Maintenance Responsibility
- Property owners are responsible for maintaining structures (exterior and interior) and exterior of the property.
- Examples are replacing rotted wooden frame of a building, replacing fences and boards, ensuring decks are structurally sound and safe to occupy.
Rubbish & Garbage
- Exterior property and premises, and the interior of every structure, shall be free from any accumulation of rubbish or garbage.
- Every occupant of a structure shall dispose of all rubbish in a clean and sanitary manner by placing such rubbish in approved containers.
Code Compliance and covenants both play a role in regulating property use and maintenance, but they operate under different authorities and have different scopes. Code Compliance deals with adherence to public laws, while covenants are private rules established within a community. In cases of conflict, the more restrictive rule generally takes precedence.
The Code Compliance Workshop is free to attend. For more information, visit the Code Compliance section on the City website.
