As part of the intersection improvements taking place along Medlock Bridge Road/State Route 141 in Johns Creek, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the City of Johns Creek have agreed to reduce the speed of vehicular travel from 55 mph to 45 mph.
After conducting a speed study and reviewing the results, GDOT officially approved lowering the posted speed limit to 45 mph on Medlock Bridge Road/State Route 141 from the State Bridge Road intersection up to the McGinnis Ferry Road intersection.
This is an important change because overall it will improve the efficiency, mobility, and safety of this critical transportation corridor. Although the speed of travel will be lower, it is anticipated that when coupled with the improvements to the intersections, traffic will actually move more efficiently thus improving the mobility within Johns Creek.
Additionally, by using a design speed of 45 mph, the City was able to reduce the impacts to the surrounding property owners by not having to add additional 10’ wide shoulders outside the new travel lanes which would have been required on both sides of the road.
The new reduced speed limit on Medlock Bridge Road/State Route 141 (from State Bridge Rd. to McGinnis Ferry Rd.) will take effect beginning January 1, 2024.
