City Council approves 2023 neighborhood, main roads repaving program

This spring, the Johns Creek Public Works Department launches its ninth year of repaving the city’s neighborhood streets.

Crews are slated to pave five neighborhoods this year:

  • Seven Oaks
  • Abbotts Cove
  • Long Indian Creek
  • Highgate
  • Pine Ridge

A repaving schedule will be available on the city website and is subject to change due to weather and availability of additional crews.

The schedule also includes repaving the following main road:

  • McGinnis Ferry, from Bell Road to Belcrest Drive

Crews will also patch the following main roads:

  • McGinnis Ferry Road (Eastbound) (Johns Creek Parkway to Bell Road)
  • Findley Road (Medlock Bridge Road to Sargent Road)
  • Sargent Road (McGinnis Ferry Road to Jones Bridge Road)
  • Buice Road (Old Alabama Road to Jones Bridge Road)
  • Bell Road (Medlock Bridge Road to McGinnis Ferry Road)
  • Boles Road (Abbotts Bridge Road to Bell Road)
  • Old Alabama Road ( Jones Bridge Road to Spruill Road)

In 2022, the city resurfaced six neighborhoods totaling 10 miles. Paving also included main roads: East Fox Court, State Bridge Road, Brumbelow Road, Abberly Cove, McGinnis Ferry Road, Parsons Road patching, and the Shakerag Park track resurfacing.

In 2018, a consultant drove a specially equipped vehicle down each of Johns Creek’s streets to gauge their conditions. Using that data as a guide, the Public Works staff developed a repaving plan for the city’s subdivisions.

The physical survey of city streets revealed many had a substandard Pavement Quality Index (PQI), a scale developed by the Corps of Engineers to measure cracking, potholes, rutting, weathering and other factors. Low PQI scores reflect poor condition of pavement. The lower the PQI score, the higher the ranking when scheduling the repaving.
