MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System)

The Municipal Storm Sewer System (MS4) is the portion of the Separate Storm Sewer System in Johns Creek that is owned and controlled by the city.

The City does not provide operation and maintenance (cleaning, repair, and/or replacement) service on portions of the storm sewer system outside of the City’s MS4, except in emergency situations (e.g. work to clear or repair the drainage system to maintain open lanes on City streets and roads, and to protect an imminent danger to public health).

MS4 does not include infrastructure that are not under the direct control of the City (i.e. residential or commercial stormwater management ponds). Maintenance of any stormwater infrastructure on privately owned property, whether inside an easement or not is the responsibility of individual property owners or their Homeowners/Property Owners Association). Lastly, the City’s MS4 does not include stormwater infrastructure assets owned, operated, and/or maintained by another MS4 (i.e. GDOT).
