Deputy Chief John Clifton is a seasoned law enforcement professional with a career that spans over several decades. His journey in law enforcement began at the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Department in Georgia, where he dedicated ten years to patrol and investigations. His commitment and skill in the field led him to serve as an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for two years.
DC Clifton’s leadership abilities were recognized early in his career, leading to his appointment as the Chief of Police for the City of Porterdale and the City of Forsyth, Georgia. In 2008, he became a foundational member of the Johns Creek Police Department, where he has served since the department’s inception.
Academically, DC Clifton obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. His commitment to professional development and international law enforcement cooperation was demonstrated in 2007 when he was part of a law enforcement exchange program to Israel, organized by Georgia State University. He also attended the FBI National Academy Session 248.
Beyond his professional achievements, DC Clifton is deeply committed to community service. He cites his work with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics as the highlight of his career. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Law Enforcement Torch Run International Executive Council. In this role, he plays a pivotal part in casting vision for a global movement that focuses on raising awareness and resources for Special Olympic athletes, demonstrating his dedication to service and community engagement.
