Johns Creek Municipal Elections are non-partisan. Candidates run at-large and the candidate who receives the majority of votes cast wins their respective seat. Public Officials have staggered four-year terms, with elections every two years (Post 2, 4 and 6) and (Post 1, 3, 5 and Mayor).

The Mayor and Council member shall serve for no more than three consecutive terms, four-year terms of office and shall not include any partial terms of office.  In addition, no terms of office served prior to Jan. 1, 2020, and no terms of office of office served as councilmember shall be considered in determining if a person has served more than three consecutive terms of office.

The City Clerk is the qualifying officer for the City of Johns Creek and citizens interested in qualifying to run for Mayor or City Council must:

  • Be 21 years of age
  • Have lived within Johns Creek for 12 months immediately preceding elections
  • If elected, they must continue to live within Johns Creek during their period of service
  • Be registered and qualified to vote in Johns Creek Municipal Elections

In addition, the person must file their candidacy affidavit as prescribed by the Georgia Election Code along with complying with the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission.

Municipal Elections

The Municipal Election for Mayor and Posts 1, 3, 5 will be Tuesday, Nov. 4 with early voting  to be held Tuesday, Oct. 14 through Friday, Oct. 31. If necessary, a runoff will be Tuesday, Dec. 2.  The deadline for voter registration is Monday, Oct. 6.

Running for Elected Office

All Council member positions are designated by posts numbered one (1) through six (6); however, all Council seats are at-large positions.  All candidates for election to Council member positions shall designate, at the time of qualifying, the post to which they are seeking election.

Any Johns Creek resident who wishes to qualify as a candidate for a Council member post shall file a Notice of Candidacy and Affidavit with the City Clerk’s Office (3rd floor) at Johns Creek City Hall, which is located at 11360 Lakefield Drive, Johns Creek, GA 30097 when the qualifying period opens during an election year.  The City Clerk serves as the qualifying officer for the City of Johns Creek. 

Per the City of Johns Creek’s Charter, in order to qualify for office, representatives must: 

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Have lived within Johns Creek for 12 months immediately preceding elections
  • If elected, continue to reside within Johns Creek during period of service
  • Be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections in Johns Creek.
