The Johns Creek Police Department is part of North Metro SWAT and Negotiations, a special weapons and tactics unit, formed in 2010 to serve the cities of Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, and Dunwoody, Georgia.

The 30-member North Metro SWAT team – made up of officers from each of the three cities – is trained to perform high-risk operations that fall outside of the training of other police officers.
Equipped with specialized firearms and equipment, North Metro SWAT responds to:
- hostage rescues
- counter-terrorism operations
- serves high-risk arrest and search warrants
- subdues barricaded suspects
- engages heavily armed criminals
