June 2016

Summer time in Johns Creek is in full effect. The temperatures are warming, neighborhood pools are opening, and kids are celebrating the end of the school year.

Whether visiting one of our parks or enjoying a meal at one of Johns Creek’s award winning restaurants, people are out and about enjoying the warm air and sunshine.

Luckily for Johns Creek residents there is no shortage of fun activities offered by the city this summer including concerts, movies, new athletic classes, a Farmers Market, and more!

The summer movie series offers outdoor family fun centered around a popular featured film presented on a huge inflatable outdoor screen at Newtown Park. Pre-show activities include inflatable moonwalk, face painting, children’s activities, give-a-ways, entertainment, food and drinks.  The first movie event on Saturday, June 11, will show the popular Disney film, “Inside Out.” The “Movies at Newtown Park” are sponsored by Northside Hospital.

If you are more of a music fan, Johns Creek Concerts in the Park are back by popular demand beginning in June. Bring your family and friends to enjoy live music at the Newtown Park Amphitheater. A series of four family-friendly concerts are free and open to the public. Food will be available for purchase from a variety of popular food trucks. Reserved table seating for up to ten in the Amphitheater is available via the City’s website, www.JohnsCreekGA.gov.  The first concert is Friday, June 24, featuring “Rupert’s Orchestra,” a local Georgia band that performs everything from current Top 40 hits to Motown and Classic Rock to Swing.

If you are really looking to get out and move, our exceptional Recreation and Parks Division is launching a new Free Outdoor Fitness Edition at Autry Mill Nature Preserve. A compliment to the existing Outdoor Fitness program at Newtown Park, the Autrey Mill Edition features Bar-less Barre classes taught by certified fitness instructors from Elevate Barre Studio.  The classes will be held once a month, beginning on June 12 through September, and are open to participants’ age 16 and older. The original Free Outdoor Fitness classes will continue at the Newtown Park amphitheater and are held on the first and third Sunday of the month through October.

Finally, the Johns Creek Farmers Market is now in full swing. Open every Saturday, the market is open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. with over thirty local vendors from around the Johns Creek and north metro area. The market features the best in local and regional organic produce, pasture-raised meats, eggs and dairy, and artisan-made goods. Purchasing your food through the Newtown Park Farmers Market ensures that you are getting the freshest, healthiest and tastiest foods while supporting local jobs, increasing local spending and promoting the area's strong farming and entrepreneurial spirit. What's good for you is good for your community!

No matter what you choose to do this summer, we hope you will be able to enjoy one of the many events going on within the City of Johns Creek.

Keep track of all of our summer activities via either the city’s website or Facebook page. Hope to see you in the park!
