To offset property tax reassessment increases, the City of Johns Creek City Council has proposed a rollback of the city’s millage rate to no higher than 3.870. The proposed rollback represents a .49 decrease from the adopted 2017 rate of 4.360. This marks the first time in the history of the city that we are beginning with a revenue neutral rollback.
Based on the anticipated rate of collection of 97 percent, the total receipts from a 3.870 millage rate would be $16.4 million which is lower than the city’s adopted budget for the current year property tax revenue of $16.7 million.
Before the City of Johns Creek sets the final millage rate for 2018, Georgia law requires a public hearing to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions. However, the City Council decided at its July 9 Council Meeting to hold three public hearings to help ensure residents have a better opportunity to participate in this process.
The city has published its five-year history of its tax digest, property revenues, and millage rate as required.
The increase shown in the link represents only the value added for the addition of new homes, additions to existing homes and new businesses, and not reassessments to existing properties.
Action to adopt the final millage rate for 2018 will take place on Aug. 13, 20018 at 8 p.m. at the Municipal Court, 11445 Johns Creek Parkway, Johns Creek, GA 30097.
Two public hearings were previously held on July 23 at noon and at 6 p.m.
