February 23, 2017
The first in a series of Public Informational Open House monthly meetings regarding road widening projects along McGinnis Ferry Road
and Jones Bridge Road
is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers (12000 Findley Road).
Ongoing planning considerations for each project include identifying the best solutions to mitigate noise and to minimize the impact on property. Sound studies are continuing and contractors have been tasked with design proposals for sound barriers such as berms, walls, fences, or a combination of each. The Public Works Department for the City of Johns Creek has strongly recommended that medians along McGinnis Ferry Road be limited to 8 ft.-wide in order to mitigate the impact on property. The City is working with Forsyth County, the City of Alpharetta, GDOT, and the contractors designing the projects toward an agreement on the final concept. No final decisions will be made until several key points regarding the median and noise mitigation have been addressed.
The City does not anticipate construction along Jones Bridge Road, between Sargent and McGinnis Ferry roads, to begin until the end of 2018. Road widening along McGinnis Ferry Road, from Sargent Road in Johns Creek to Union Hill Road/Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Forsyth County, is not expected to begin until the end of 2019. The exact time frame of each project can either be shortened or extended depending on the type of funding source utilized.
