The City of Johns Creek began the process of converting two fields at Newtown Park to synthetic turf on Monday, Sept. 4. The field conversion at Newtown Park includes the main soccer field and lacrosse field. Once construction begins, installation is anticipated to take up to 30 days, weather permitting.
Synthetic turf field installation is consistent with the recommendations of the Recreation and Parks Strategic Plan. Additionally, the new turf fields at both locations will allow the upcoming sports seasons to occur with minimal disruption and will enable leagues to increase their play time in conditions that would have otherwise been lost to rain.
Field Turf USA, Inc. is the same company contracted by Fulton County Schools for the design and installation of synthetic turf fields used by the school system. The fields at Newtown Park and Shakerag Park will be designed and installed according to the same specifications and regulations used by Fulton County Schools.
According to the agreement approved by the City Council, the cost for tinstallation of the three fields will not exceed $2,004,606. The Parks Bond, approved by voters in November 2016, will fund the project.
