The City of Johns Creek has approved funding for the concept/design phase for the new road in Technology Park that will run from Bell Road to Johns Creek Parkway.
The concept design will then be presented to the public and City Council for additional input before a final determination is made on whether or not to proceed to construction.
If approved, the new road will increase options for residents traveling to and from Technology Park, and an alternate access route to Technology Park for emergency vehicles.
The $75,000 cost for the concept/design is funded by Transportation Special Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST).
The Tier 1 TSPLOST list includes $2.5 million for the new road from Bell Road to Johns Creek Parkway.
The Tier 1 TSPLOST Project List contains 10 projects in total. Council approved funding for engineering and concept designs related to four other TSPLOST projects in September:
• (McGinnis Ferry Road widening from Union Hill to Sargent roads (a joint project with Forsyth County, Alpharetta, and Milton).
• State Bridge Road widening from Medlock Bridge Road (SR 141) to the Chattahoochee River (project aligns with a similar project by Gwinnett County).
• Barnwell Road intersection improvements at Holcomb Bridge Road.
• Bell Road / Boles Road Corridor operational and safety improvements.
The TSPLOST projects require a staged implementation based on the available funding. Construction timelines are yet to be determined.
Voters approved the TSPLOST referendum (0.75% increase in the existing sales tax) in November 2016. Johns Creek is projected to receive $82 million to fund local transportation projects throughout the next 5 years.
Public input meetings will be scheduled in the future.
