COVID-19 Update from the City of Johns Creek


Monday, March 30, 2020 | 6:30 p.m.

City Council will hold a Special Called Meeting on Wednesday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 11360 Lakefield Drive. The purpose of the Special Called Meeting will be to consider an Emergency Ordinance to provide for individuals and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic and an ordinance to establish procedures and rules for operating a business within the City of Johns Creek during the COVID-19 pandemic.  In addition, Council will discuss their meeting cadence during this Pandemic and the City Manager will provide a status report on the City Operations during this Pandemic.  Public Comments may be emailed to the City Clerk at joan.jones@johnscreekga.gov who will read the comments for the record. The meeting will be live-streamed on the city website.

The City of Johns Creek continues to monitor developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In consideration of the public health emergency, and to reduce the opportunity for the spread of the disease in our community, the city has cancelled the following events and activities:

As previously announced, the Wall That Heals Vietnam Veterans Memorial grand opening has been postponed and a date has not yet been selected. And, the City’s Easter Egg Dash (March 28) and Special Needs Spring Fling (March 29) have been cancelled.
 
We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they become available.

Update for Johns Creek Municipal Court:  

Municipal Court dates scheduled for the week of March 30 – April 3, April 6 - 10, and  April 13 - 17 are cancelled and will be rescheduled. Municipal Court staff will send those individuals whose courts dates are affected a notice in the mail and you will be rescheduled.

Johns Creek suspends on-premises eating at city restaurants, dining establishments

An emergency ordinance temporarily suspending on-premises dining operations at restaurants and dining establishments in the city was approved by the Johns Creek City Council during its emergency special-called meeting on Friday evening. The temporary dining restrictions are enacted to curtail large gatherings and to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for employees and the public. The emergency ordinance directs restaurants and dining establishments in Johns Creek to cease dine-in services beginning Friday, March 20, 2020 at 6 p.m. Read more.


Friday, March 20, 2020 | 5:40 p.m.

As of Friday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m., all Johns Creek City parks facilities will be CLOSED until further notice. Newtown, Ocee, Shakerag, and Autrey Mill Nature Preserve’s restrooms, dog park, playgrounds, pavilions, and athletic fields and courts will be closed. It feels great to get fresh air outside, so park trails and sidewalks will be open but please remember the CDC’s recommendation of practicing social distancing (keep a 6-foot distance).

Wednesday, March 18, 2020 | 7:15 p.m.

The City of Johns Creek Council unanimously adopted an Emergency Ordinance at the Special Called Meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. The ordinance ensures the Mayor and City Council can fully address the public emergency created by the COVID-19 global pandemic affecting the life, health, property, and public peace within the City.

  • In accordance with the adopted ordinance the City Council will be able to hold meetings and vote via teleconference. Any and all actions taken during these meetings shall be reported to the public through the City’s website.

  • The City Council Work Session and Meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23 have been cancelled.

  • Additionally, the occupational tax payment deadline of March 31, 2020 has been extended through Sunday, May 31, 2020.

The Mayor and Council of the City of Johns Creek will hold a SPECIAL CALLED MEETING at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.  This Special Called Meeting will be held at Johns Creek City Hall, 11360 Lakefield Drive, Johns Creek, GA  30097.  The purpose of the Special Called Meeting will be to consider the passage of an Emergency Declaration Ordinance. The meeting will be live-streamed on the city website.

City of Johns Creek Closes City Hall and Cancels/Postpones Events and Meetings

 

The City of Johns Creek is in daily contact with local and state agencies, as well as community partners, hospitals, schools, and neighboring public safety agencies to ensure we have the most updated information pertaining to the coronavirus (COVID-19). 

City staff has been monitoring the situation and meeting regularly to assess providing services and operations around Johns Creek.  In light of the recent recommendations from the public health emergency declared by Governor Brian Kemp, the city has announced additional temporary facility closures, operational changes, and the suspension of certain meetings and events until further notice. 

City Hall:

As of 5 p.m., Monday, March 16, Johns Creek City Hall is closed to the public and non-essential personnel until further notice. An update on the March 23 City Council Work Session and City Council Meeting is forthcoming. (*Update: March 18 - The City Council Work Session and Meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23 have been cancelled.)

Early Voting / Presidential Primary:

Early voting has been suspended. The Georgia Presidential Preference Primary and Special Election is now scheduled for May 19, 2020. For details on voting, visit the Secretary of State website

Public Safety:

Johns Creek Police, Fire and emergency services will maintain continuity of response and emergency operations throughout the city. If you have an emergency, please call 911.

Municipal Court: 

Johns Creek Municipal Court dates scheduled for the week of March 16-20 and March 23-27 are cancelled and will be rescheduled. Municipal Court staff will send those individuals whose courts dates are affected a notice in the mail and you will be rescheduled. The March 25 STOP Class has been cancelled. You can pay your traffic ticket/citation online.

Community Development Department – Permits & Applications: 

Effective March 23, 2020, the City of Johns Creek Community Development Department will be accepting permit applications by email to due COVID-19 and the City Hall closure. View details about the email permitting process here.

Recreation sports, programs, & activities: 

All Johns Creek recreation/sports league activities (Newtown Recreation and Ocee Park Recreation) as well as Autrey Mill Nature Preserve activities have been suspended through April 12 and planned to resume on April 13.

Third-party special events/Park facility rentals: 

All park facility rentals are cancelled through April 12. All third-party special events in the parks are cancelled through April 12.

Clubhouse Fitness classes (March-April session) and Free Outdoor Fitness: 

Classes are cancelled through April 12. 

Park Place at Newtown School: 

All Park Place programs and activities will be cancelled for the next two weeks (through March 29). Early voting at Park Place has been suspended.

Johns Creek Fire Department: 

All public tours of the fire stations have been suspended.

Johns Creek Event Cancellations & Postponements:

  • The Wall That Heals Grand Opening: The event to be held on March 28 will be rescheduled.

  • Easter Egg Dash: The event to be held on March 28 at Shakerag Park is cancelled.

  • Special Needs Spring Fling: The event to be held on March 29 at Newtown Park is cancelled.

  • Special Needs Bocce Ball: Cancelled through April 7.

  • Johns Creek International Festival: The event to be held April 25 has been cancelled.
