Community Development Block Grant

community planningA Community Development Block Grant provides federal funding to address unique community needs. Authorized under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, the program provides annual grants on a formula basis to local governments and states.

The City of Johns Creek is eligible for grant funds under the Entitlement Community Program, one of several CDBG programs the Department of Housing and Urban Development offers. The purpose of these grants is to develop viable communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and opportunities to expand economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate income persons.

In accordance with the Consolidated Plan adopted by the Johns Creek City Council on July 29, 2009, the city intends to provide for ADA components in the library, and continue improvements to the Newtown School House on Old Alabama Road for provision of a Senior Center and senior programming for the 2012 Action Year. The estimated award for 2012 is $254,000.

Each year's Action Plan, Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER), and all other CDBG documents are available on the CDBG Reports & Publications page.
