Code Compliance focuses on ensuring compliance with all city codes and ordinances that affect the City’s quality of life and the welfare. Below is a list of violation complaints that the City frequently receives:

  • Overgrown Grass/Weeds: All premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds or plant growth in excess of ten (10″) inches. All noxious weeds shall be prohibited. Weeds shall be defined as all grasses, annual plants and vegetation, other than trees or shrubs provided; however, this term shall not include cultivated flowers and gardens.

  • Accumulation/Disposal of Rubbish or Garbage: All exterior property and premises and the interior of every structure, shall be free from any accumulation of rubbish or garbage. Every occupant of a structure shall dispose of all rubbish in a clean and sanitary manner by placing such rubbish in approved containers.

  • Outside Storage: Any outdoor storage found on residential or commercial properties that are not in compliance with the City’s Zoning Ordinance.

  • Parking & Loading: The visible storage or parking of more than four vehicles at a single-family residence shall be unlawful. Parking or storage of a junk or salvage vehicle shall constitute an unlawful use except that no more than two such vehicles shall be permitted if parked or stored in a garage or carport not visible from a street or adjacent residential property

  • Parking for Specialized Vehicles: Earth moving/heavy construction vehicles are only to be stored in residential properties during construction under an active building permit and/or land disturbance permit. Other specialized vehicles, such as recreational vehicles, campers, buses, trailers, and boats, can be parked or stored in all residential properties as long as the vehicles are not used as living quarters and that they are parked or stored on an all-surface area that is not in front of the principal structure.

  • Abandoned/Junk Vehicles: Except as provided for in other regulations, no inoperative or unlicensed motor vehicle shall be parked, kept or stored on any premises, and no vehicle shall at any time be in a state of major disassembly, disrepair, or in the process of being stripped or dismantled. Painting of vehicles is prohibited unless conducted inside an approved spray booth.

  • Commercial Vehicle Parking: In all commercial or office zoning districts, truck or vans used for delivery or service and/or displaying advertising of a business located on the same property must be parked within the side or rear yards and may not be parked within the front yard, except vehicles parked temporarily while making a delivery, providing a service or purchasing goods or services. Should there be no parking areas in the side or rear of the building, the vehicle may be parked in the front. Under no circumstances may a vehicle with advertising be allowed to park in a parking space adjacent to an exterior road.

  • Zoning Violations:  Any illegal nonconforming use of a property or structure not compliant with the requirements of the City’s Zoning Ordinance or applicable zoning conditions.

  • Illegal Signs: Any sign which does not meet the requirements set forth in the City’s Sign Code Ordinance.

  • Illegal Home Occupation: Any business operating from a residence which does not meet or exceed the City’s Zoning Ordinance.

  • Vacant Structures & Land: All vacant structures and premises thereof or vacant land shall be maintained in a clean, safe, secure, and sanitary condition as provided herein so as not to cause blight or adversely affect the health or safety of the public.
