The much anticipated widening of McGinnis Ferry Road (from the Chattahoochee River to Sargent Road) is spearheaded by the Georgia Department of Transportation with assistance from the City's Transportation Services.
McGinnis Ferry Road will be widened from two lanes to four lanes. Construction includes sidewalks and a raised median, improving safety and traffic flow. There is extensive utility relocation work involved in the project, including 36 large transmission poles.
The five-mile project was kicked off with a formal groundbreaking ceremony in August 2007 and is scheduled to be completed by July 31, 2010.

GDOT Project Updates City News Stories
Following several public input workshops in 2007, GDOT initiated environmental and conceptual studies for transportation improvements along Old Alabama Road – from Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell westward to Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek.
The purpose of the project is to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility along this busy corridor.
The project is currently at the initial development step.
