
The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, part of the National Park Service System, is spread over a 48-mile section of the Chattahoochee River from Lake Lanier Dam in Forsyth County to Peachtree Creek near downtown Atlanta.

It consists of 16 different areas or units, five of which are located in or immediately adjacent to Johns Creek (see map):
Jones Bridge Unit
(Barnwell Rd, 1.6 miles north of Holcomb Bridge Rd)
Trails, boat launch (motor, canoe & raft), picnic tables, restrooms. Wheelchair-accessible.
Medlock Bridge Unit
(GA 141 / Medlock Bridge Road, approx. 3.6 miles north of the Chattahoochee River)
Trails, boat launch (motor or canoe), picnic tables.
Abbotts Bridge Unit
(Abbotts Bridge Road, just east of the river)
Trails, boat launch (motor or canoe), picnic tables, pavilion, restrooms.
Suwanee Creek
(Gwinnett County just east of Peachtree Industrial Parkway)
Undeveloped / no services.
McGinnis Ferry Unit
(McGinnis Ferry Road at the border with Forsyth County)
