Season's greetings

December 14, 2009

Mayor Mike BodkerIt amazes me that we are preparing to bid farewell to 2009 and welcome in a brand-new year. It has certainly been a challenging and exciting 12 months here in Johns Creek.

Although 2009 saw many of our citizens and businesses suffering from financial pressures and others coping with autumn's flood waters, I remain heartened by the incredible outpouring of friendship and support that I see everywhere in our city.

For every challenge, we seem to have a commensurate blessing. While families and businesses see a need to watch expenses, these people still realize there are others whose needs outstrip their own. This outpouring of generosity – from the Toys for Tots Campaign at City Hall to the food drives we see at our schools, to the great success of the first Johns Creek Relay for Life – should make us all proud to call Johns Creek our hometown.

On the city side, we have much to be proud of as well. This past summer saw the long-awaited launch of our joint 911 service with Sandy Springs, complementing the police and fire departments launched in 2008. We saw a dramatic decrease in crime and traffic fatalities in our city this year, while emergency response times continue to improve.

And just this month, we celebrated our third annual Founders Day. The staff and our community put together a wonderful week-long birthday celebration that culminated in an exciting parade with close to 2,000 participants.

We have much to be proud of and thankful for as the year draws to a close. In 2010, like 2009, will have our challenges I am sure, but we will take great pleasure in facing those challenges together.

On behalf of myself, my fellow council members and the entire staff of the City of Johns Creek may I extend our warmest wishes for the happiest of holidays and a joyous new year.

Respectfully,

Mayor Mike Bodker
