JCFD to check, advise on installing vehicle child safety seats, Jan. 14 & Jan. 21

January 04, 2017

Car seatThe Johns Creek Fire Department will demonstrate how to properly install vehicle child safety seats on Saturday, Jan. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturday, Jan. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at Fire Station 61 at 10265 Medlock Bridge Parkway.

Firefighters certified as Car Seat Techs by SafeKids will take out the child safety seat, verify it’s not on a recall list, make sure it’s the correct seat for the age and size of the child, and double-check that it is compatible with the car’s seatbelt system.

Car Seat Techs do not actually install the seats for attendees. They will demonstrate and educate parents/caregivers how to install the seat, verify proper placement and address safety concerns. If you are physically unable to install the car seat, be sure to bring someone with you to the fire station who is capable of installing a child restraint.

Please bring the car seat manufacturer's instructions and the owner's manual for the vehicle in which the seat will be secured.

In Georgia, children under 8 years old must be in an age- and size-appropriate child car safety seat and be placed in the back seat unless other passengers occupy the backseat. Children more than 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches may use a seat belt in lieu of a child safety seat.

The event is free.
