The City of Johns Creek completed its repaving and restriping project along McGinnis Ferry Road eastbound into Gwinnett County, which added a third lane for approximately a half mile.
The City initiated this project following Gwinnett County’s 2016 construction bid to add three left turn lanes onto Peachtree Industrial Blvd. from McGinnis Ferry Road as motorists enter Gwinnett County from Johns Creek. While this concept was designed to help relieve congestion at the intersection, the City recognized that without adding additional capacity that traffic would still continue to stack into Johns Creek and only provide minimal congestion relief for motorists as they approach the bridge across the Chattahoochee River.
The City coordinated with Gwinnett County to repave and restripe the approach to the bridge to add a third lane, and requested that Gwinnett County’s project east of the bridge complement the work to provide for a seamless transition as motorists transit this route.
As a result, the City realized a significant cost benefit by repaving and restriping existing roadway rather than adding additional pavement.
