City installs new pedestrian crosswalk near Dolvin Elementary

March 03, 2017

CrosswalkThe City of Johns Creek recently installed a new pedestrian crosswalk along Buice Road near Dolvin Elementary School.

The crosswalk, which provides a safe crossing for students and parents walking to Dolvin Elementary, features a landscaped island, in-pavement lights, and is completely solar powered.

The new crosswalk is the first in the City to have Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, which feature an irregular flash pattern that is similar to emergency flashers on public safety vehicles.

The system works the same as a pedestrian signal at a traffic light.  The pedestrian pushes the button to activate the lights, checks to make sure traffic is stopping before crossing, and then the pedestrian crosses the road.  After a set time sufficient for a pedestrian to fully cross, the lights then deactivate.
