The Johns Creek City Council approved the city’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 budget with a General Fund that anticipates $55,257,146 in revenues, which represents an overall 0.57% increase from the adopted FY 2016 Budget. It is unfortunate that 37 Main chose to close its doors in Johns Creek and that the facts surrounding this choice have been misrepresented. The City of Johns Creek desired to have the business continue on as a valuable part of the community and the mayor and city staff diligently worked to provide many proposed solutions and options, which would have enabled 37 Main to continue operations in the city.  However, after more than 65 noise complaints by residents, eight citations, and two court decisions against 37 Main, it did not appear that the business desired to comply with the city’s noise ordinance.

Prior to Johns Creek becoming a city, several billboard companies applied to Fulton County for 75 billboard sign permits.  Fulton County denied the applications and the billboard companies sued.  Johns Creek joined the lawsuit after it became a city.  The lawsuit was resolved by the Georgia Supreme Court with the finding that the Fulton County sign ordinance was unconstitutional and that the billboard companies were entitled to erect up to 75 billboards, including 31 billboards at 27 locations within Johns Creek.

A man and a woman overturned their canoe and were trapped on shoals near Jones Bridge Park on March 15. The Johns Creek Fire Department’s (JCFD) Swift Water Rescue Unit responded with its new high-powered rescue boat. The boat, which has a 200hp jet drive motor, powered its way upstream from the Jones Bridge Road ramp and rescued the couple.

Johns Creek city officials are continuing to coordinate with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), who manages the Old Alabama Road project, as well as other officials to accelerate construction.  GDOT has responded and the contractor, C.W. Matthews, has work crews back on site.  Recent inaccurate reports indicate a completion date of May 2017.  GDOT has now advised that the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016, weather permitting.
